WELCOME TO OUR TOWN

A GUIDE TO THE COMMUNITY

The Town Clerk’s Office has prepared this booklet to promote a better understanding of the Town, our local government and services and to encourage residents to participate in the governing process.

The Credo of the Clerk

I’m the Municipal Clerk, elected and sworn

To serve all the people in my little home town;

To be honest and kind; diligent and true

To each and every person, not just a few,

Who enters my office or calls on the phone

Meeting each need as if ‘twas my own.

I keep the Town records safe and secure

For the Boards and Committees, Departments and more,

I file birth and death records, marriages too,

License dogs, conduct the annual census and register voters who are new,

I answer the phone and what questions I hear,

From “Where do I go for?” to “Got Doe Permits in yet this year?”

I budget, I spend, schedule election workers too,

Supervise the voting, record the results-it can be a zoo!

I post meetings for boards each and every week,

And help the public, whatever they seek,

Submit monthly reports to the Town and the State

Prove all monies, the responsibility is great,

I get out old records, wipe off the dust,

Someone is here about genealogy stuff.

I update the by-laws, correct misconceptions-

Some days I’m going in all directions.

Anything less than my best for the Town Clerk

Certainly would be wrong-I’d be letting them down

So I pledge to you all to do my very best

Help solve your problem smiling indeed

I search the Town laws and State Statutes too

To find the right answer, a wrong one won’t do

It’s a part of what I do and it’s done from my heart;

What’s a Town Clerk?  The above’s just a start,

Each day I learn new lessons, that’s true,

Work “on-the-job” and attend classes too.

So, as long as you want, I’ll serve you each day

And help you along, each step of the way.
