EDUCATION IN ORANGE

The Orange Public School system consists of three elementary schools, and a Regional Middle and High School.  Orange consistently appropriates more than half the town budget for the school system.  Funding is provided from local property tax, state aid and federal aid.  The schools strive to maintain a strong academic curriculum in the traditional subjects of English, Mathematics, Social Studies, and Science.  The schools also have programs in foreign languages, physical education and the fine arts.  All schools are supported by guidance and special education programs, as well as interscholastic and intramural sports.

School Committees – the School Committees are elected whose duties, as expressed in law, are to appoint the Superintendents of Schools, review and approve the school budgets, and to establish educational goals and policies for the schools consistent with the law and the statewide goals and standards established by the State Board of Education.

Kindergarten – entrance age for Kindergarten is 5 years old on or before August 31 of the year in which the child shall enter school.

Elementary Schools – there are three elementary schools, Fisher Hill (K-2), Dexter Park (3-4), and Butterfield (5-6)

Mahar Regional School – the regional school covers grades 7-12.  The towns of New Salem, Wendell, Petersham and Orange are included.  Students may also enroll in the Franklin County Technical School in Turners Falls.
